Seventy-two students from Copper Canyon High School in Phoenix, Arizona adoped 128 soldiers of the 501st Military Police Company serving in Iraq this past Holiday season.

Ms. Linda Huber, Special Education Teacher, initiated a challenge for her students to contact members of the American Army unit.
The 1st Armor Division unit had just deployed from Germany to augment and replace other army units. 1SG Jon Matthews of the 501st accepted the challange.

Each student chose from a list of soldiers and wrote as many as five letters and sent Christmas cards. The military policemen and women responded with appreciative treasures of photos, patches, pins and other momentoes. Some students received signature back packs, and t-shirts.

The students are now planning to provide "Care" packages for the troops in response. The mutual communications has brought home closer to those in harms way and has brought a personal education to the students short of being there themselves.
